Stone Seating and Information Panels
Through The Big Lottery Awards For All, Nottingham based sculptor Andrew Smith has been commissioned to produce stone seating and information panels. He has worked with local schools and other community groups to generate ideas that have been incorporated into his final sculptural designs.
On 27 November 2008 the three commissioned seats were installed. These pieces have been produced through funding from the Big Lottery 'Awards for All' and Notts County Council match funding. Under the guidance of sculptor Andy Smith and NCC Conservation Officer, Jason Mordan, a group of 'Friends' volunteers including two members of Barclays Bank 'hit team', assisted in the challenging task of siting each seat in its appropriate position. The seats based on three themes:- Community, Nature and History were created by Andy Smith in Ancaster stone, utilising images produced in workshops he undertook with local schools and groups. In addition accompanying text written by Pat Ashworth and carved into granite forming the foot base for each seat have been installed.
